HD Shock Absorbers

Generally speaking, the current design and quality of hydraulic rotation units are quite superior to the earlier air motors but they are still subject to the constant shock waves from the hammer recoil during drilling and with increasing operating pressures, the intensity of these shock waves is increasing.

The range of Bulroc shock absorbers is designed and intended to reduce the effect of these shock waves and so help protect the rotation unit.

The appropriate size shock absorber used with hammers in the intermediate range is generally fitted directly behind the hammer.

When used with large diameter hammers, the heavy weight of the cased drill pipes used with these set ups would soon compress the shock absorber to such an extent as to make it ineffective but by positioning it directly below the rotation unit, it will then absorb much of the remaining recoil or shock.
