Overburden Drilling Systems

It is an accepted fact that much of the earth’s surface is covered in a loose conglomeration of materials, generally referred to as overburden, and when it is necessary to drill through to reach the solid rock below, it is necessary to be able to support this relatively soft and loose material.

Bulroc has developed a range of equipment suitable for continuously installing a supportive casing down to, and sometimes into, the solid bedrock.

The CDS range, a range of concentric drilling systems, covers a standard range of hole sizes from 300mm through to 840mm but larger sizes can be accommodated to special order.

This type of equipment is often used for piling applications and these are generally in close proximity to existing structures. When large diameter hammers are involved, a substantial volume of air is required and the resulting exhaust air can cause ground disturbance around the bases of these structures.

To overcome this potential problem, Bulroc have patented a design, the ‘RS’ range, whereby 90% of the exhaust air is directed safely back up the hole and not through the drill bit face.
